CICC Officially Releases English Edition of "Guidebook to Carbon Neutrality in China"
Provides a Chinese perspective on the green transition by delving into how technological innovation and social governance could work together on industry transition to help reduce green premium
China International Finance Corporation Limited (CICC, 601995. SH, 3908. HK) announced the launch of an English edition of its "Guidebook to Carbon Neutrality in China: Macro and Industry Trends under New Constraint".
The guidebook combines top-down macro analysis with bottom-up industry analysis to form a complete and systematic framework for the study of carbon peaking and neutrality roadmap, as well as the specific measures and impact on the economy. Meanwhile, it makes in-depth analysis on the policies and market means to promote carbon neutrality, such as green investment, green technology and carbon pricing. Through this book, international readers can have a comprehensive understanding on the current situation and development trend of China's economy under carbon constraint, from the macro situation to industry structure, while also gaining insight into the Chinese perspective on green transition.
Dr. Wensheng Peng, Chief Economist of CICC, Head of CICC Research Department and Executive Director of CICC Global Institute said, "Though drawing a delicate balance between near-term economic development and long-term emission reduction goals is a big challenge, the global energy crises of last year reflected the difficulties and significance of controlling the transition pace. In the short term, carbon constraint imposes impact on all economic activities. However, over the long-term, it could be an effective incentive for China to rebalance its economic structure and look for a new economy growth model."
"The book envisions three possible scenarios for global climate actions and emphasizes the important role of international cooperation in promoting a smooth economic transition and achieving carbon neutrality," Peng added."In fact, since the COP26 meeting, more and more multinational enterprises and financial institutions have put forward carbon neutrality goals, and we have observed international cooperation speeding up at both the policy and market level. I hope the book could further promote international exchanges and cooperation and contribute Chinese wisdom to a wider audience."
In 2021, the CICC Research Department and CICC Global Institute jointly wrote the Chinese edition of "Guidebook to Carbon Neutrality in China: Macro and Industry Trends under New Constraint". The English edition has recently been released by Springer press in the form of open access.
