CICC and GFC hold A Seminar on GIP for the Belt and Road
The Green Finance Committee of China Society for Finance & Banking (GFC) and China International Capital Corporation Limited (CICC) jointly held a seminar on the Green Investment Principles (GIP) for the Belt and Road in CICC Singapore office on June 6th, 2019. Topics of the agenda includes major opportunities for China and Singapore after the launch of the GIP, as well as the roadmap for the promotion and implementation of the GIP. More than 20 representatives from 16 GIP signatories and partner institutions attended the meeting.
The seminar is to demonstrate the Sino-foreign cooperation on the launch of and current progress on the GIP, and to invite industry experts to discuss on the key issues for future cooperation and development. The seminar offers a platform for dialogue and networking for participants of the domestic and global capital markets on the subject of green investment and green development under the BRI.
Dr. MA Jun, Chairman of the GFC, gave an open speech on the development of green finance in China. He gave a thorough introduction on the background and the structure of the GIP. He also shared with the attendees the latest list of signatories as well as the future plan of the GIP Secretariat. As of now, a total of 28 global institutions have signed up to the GIP, with strong backing from some major international institutions and third-party service providers who also showed great interests in supporting the initiative. The GIP Secretariat will continue to promote the GIP among global financial institutions and green companies. In the meantime, it also intends to release progress report regularly and to build a green project database. Four thematic working groups, to be chaired by the GIP signatories, will be established. After Dr. Ma’s speech, representatives and industry experts had a constructive discussion throughout the entire seminar. Ms. Lindsay Lin, Managing Director and Head of Southeast Asia of CICC Investment Banking and Mr. CHENG Daming, Executive Director of CICC Investment Banking hosted the seminar and panel discussions.
